TEACHING AND LEARNING MATERIALS

The school has enough furniture but need continuously replenish textbooks, computers and other learning material due to natural wear and tear, thefts and the failure by learners to return textbooks. The school has 28 classes to 24 ordinary classrooms, 2 junior, 2 O’ level and 3 A’ Level laboratories in addition to 2 lecture theatres, a computer laboratory and library as well as a Home Economics Block Comprising Fashion and Fabrics and Food and Nutrition rooms. There is a Building studies shed on one Agriculture shed.

SPECIAL NEEDS

The Special Needs Department has been running at the school since 1999. A number of students benefited from it before re-joining the mainstream classes. Others like Grace Matiki, excelled in Girls Cricket against schools like Eaglesvale and won prizes at the District Merit Awards while Perfect Matenga made a name for himself by playing Marimba. Rostein Murimirwa now Specializes in Information Technology despite his physical disability. The Marimba band competed at a festival in South Africa in 2016 after coming second in our National competitions in 2015. In the 2016 national competitions they came out in first position and won a P A System and a small generator for the school. They are now scheduled to compete in South Africa in July 2017. Most of these students are very comfortable with practical subjects like Bakery, Building Studies, Computer Studies and performing Arts and learning areas like Music and Physical Education.

ARTS AND CULTURE

Apart from the achievements by The Marimba Club, in 2013 the school also qualified to represent Zimbabwe and Africa at the DESIGN FOR CHANGE symposium in India which was attended by several schools from all over the world. The school’s article on Design for Change was one of the twenty that found its way into a book entitled ‘I Can’. It encourages students to make positive contribution to school. Our Environment club one the first prize at Mukuvisi Woodlands recently after ecological designing competition and walked away with books worth about $1 000.The clubs at the school include: Environment, FAWEZI, Marimba, SU etc.
